Apparte Studio
Apparte is an architecture studio based in Melbourne, "founded on the principle that good design should be inclusive and accessible." Whether it's a renovation, a new build or a custom piece of furniture, every project starts with a conversation. They believe that projects of every type and scale deserve considered design thinking, and they relish a challenge: "Some of the best design in the world was born out of necessity and restriction."
That shows in both of their homes on Lunchbox. Curtain Cottage is a dark, dingy North Carlton terrace the studio designed and built for themselves, transformed into a bright, spacious home without extending at all. As builder and joiner too, they were free to experiment with some unique solutions. Garden Studio in Brunswick West turns a rundown backyard outbuilding into a compact, self-contained studio that opens onto the garden, with a mezzanine, clerestory windows and cross ventilation.
