Andrew Donaldson Architecture and Design
Andrew Donaldson Architecture & Design (ADAD) is a full-service architectural practice based in Surry Hills, Sydney. It is led by founder and director Andrew Donaldson, a registered architect in New South Wales and Queensland with more than 20 years' experience. The practice specialises in bespoke homes and public art gallery design, and its particular expertise is "the creative transformation of complex existing buildings, urban environments or natural landscapes." Their North Curl Curl House was named HIA Australian Home of the Year in 2021.
On Lunchbox, Potts Point Apartment reworks a 57-square-metre flat in Franconia Apartments, a modernist building by Emil Sodersten, for two retirees who wanted to be in the thick of Kings Cross. On a modest budget, ADAD designed an 8.2-metre joinery unit in American white oak that works like a Swiss Army knife, switching between living, dining, media, art display, library, photo studio and even a sewing station.
