Anonymous Architects

Anonymous Architects is an architecture practice based in Los Angeles, California. Their work on Lunchbox, Big & Small House, is one of the few international homes we've featured. It sits on a vacant lot half the typical minimum lot size, so the aim was to make up for the small footprint.

The answer is an inversion of expectations: the smallest house contains the largest room. There are only two full-height walls inside, and the main room is nearly as big as the whole footprint, with very high ceilings and plenty of natural light. The plan follows the site's asymmetric parallelogram shape, and the house sits on four small piles above the sloping block.
