Architects EAT
Architects EAT is a Melbourne practice based in South Yarra. Both of their homes on Lunchbox rework period houses in Melbourne's suburbs, playing with light and dark, openness and privacy, and the line between inside and out.
Elm and Willow House in Canterbury turns its back on the long, dark corridor of the typical Edwardian house. The courtyard extension floats above the ground to protect the roots of two established trees, and full-height sliding doors make the walls disappear so the whole yard becomes part of the house. Parure House in Kensington is named after a matching set of jewellery, and like its namesake it's a set of separate architectural ideas that add up to something dazzling, from the contrast between the historic street front and the modern addition behind to internal gardens, a double-height void and a sunken lounge.

Elm and Willow House: A Home That Blurs Indoors and Outdoors
Elm and Willow House's walls seem to vanish. The living area is neither indoor, nor outdoor space -- the entire yard becomes a part of the house.
Parure House: A Dazzling Jewel in Kensington
Parure House in Melbourne's inner suburb Kensington is a matching set of separate architectural ideas. It displays a richness of detail and experience.
