Aterre
Aterre is a residential architecture practice working from Sydney's Inner West, established in 2018 by Melinda. Their aim is to help clients "create space for life - spaces that are enduring and delightful." They enjoy the challenges of unusual sites, reimagining existing buildings and working within heritage contexts, while keeping their environmental impact down, and they guide clients all the way from early feasibility and concept design through approvals to construction.
On Lunchbox, Fin House in Willoughby is a renovation for Hayley and Steve, self-confessed "habitual over-caterers" whose semi-detached home got smaller, darker and more cramped the closer you got to the back door. The new rear addition brings in light through skylights and clerestory windows under a sculptural roof, and creates the indoor-outdoor entertaining space their gatherings of friends and family deserved.

A house for self-confessed 'habitual over-caterers'...
Opening up the back of this semi to light and the backyard has created the perfect entertainer.
