Bark Design Architects on Lunchbox Architect

Bark Architects is a Sunshine Coast architecture practice with its studio in Tinbeerwah, in the Noosa hinterland, designing "contemporary living, leisure and work spaces" for private and public clients. Founding directors Lindy Atkin and Stephen Guthrie have been in partnership since 1995, when they won a competition to design the Caloundra Art Gallery, and together they bring more than 50 years of experience. Their drive is to create "site responsive, 'tailored' and innovative environments that maintain a balance between function, cost effectiveness and sustainability."

On Lunchbox, Marcus Beach House sits just 250 metres from Marcus Beach and captures the essence of living by the sea. The basic plan was sketched in the sand on an early site visit: two pavilions either side of a venerable tree. The house explores lightness, filtered breezes and layers of transparency, with decks, a courtyard pool and plenty of indoor-outdoor living, framing a relaxed, sustainable coastal lifestyle.
