BKK Architects on Lunchbox Architect
BKK Architects is an architecture practice based in Melbourne's CBD. Both of their homes on Lunchbox are clever extensions in the city's inner suburbs, rethinking how a family house can work on a tricky site.
Boundary House solves a common inner-urban problem: an existing house sitting awkwardly in the middle of its block, with living spaces facing south and no direct sun. By wrapping a sculptural extension hard against the boundary, the architects freed up a light-filled courtyard in the centre and added two bedrooms, a bathroom, a laundry and a lounge for a growing family. Dolls House Northcote is designed like an oversized doll's house, with two spaces stacked on top of each other and furniture and joinery, rather than doors and walls, dividing the rooms, so the home can adapt as the family changes.

Boundary House Extension Grows to Create Internal Courtyard
By wrapping an extension against the boundary, Boundary House deals with awkward residual spaces and improves access to light.
This Home in Northcote is Designed Like an Oversized Doll's House
Like a real doll's house, this addition is two spaces stacked on top of each other and uses furniture and joinery to divide spaces instead of doors and walls.
