Bossley Architects

Bossley Architects is an architecture and interior design practice in Auckland, working across commercial, institutional and residential projects, from the Park Hyatt Auckland and The Hearing House to houses in the Marlborough Sounds. It's led by director Pete Bossley, a registered architect and Fellow of the NZIA who received the NZIA Gold Medal in 2012, and who was joint principal responsible for the architecture of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa while at Jasmax. The team describes itself as "creative pragmatists who delight in the power of good architecture to enhance lives."

On Lunchbox, Arruba is a playful extension to a family bach at Orua Bay, on the Manukau coast. The old yellow bach had become too small for children, grandchildren and friends, so a bright red box now floats above a car and dinghy port, squeezed between the sea and a steep cliff. It's a flexible room for sleeping, lounging or working, in the Kiwi tradition of relaxed, colourful additions.

This extension continues a tradition of relaxed, colourful and small-scaled modifications which have been occurring for generations.
