Bourne Blue Architecture
Bourne Blue Architecture was established in Newcastle in 1996 by directors Rachael Bourne and Shane Blue, who graduated from the University of Sydney and worked in Sydney, Canberra and London before settling in Newcastle. Since then the practice has built nearly 300 projects, from alterations and additions and new houses to childcare centres and school and university buildings, across a stretch from Canberra to Port Macquarie. It's deliberately small and design-based, so every project has real director involvement and a project architect who sees it from start to finish, and the office itself runs on solar power.
They have ten projects on Lunchbox, many of them on the NSW coast. Kurreki Beach Retreat is a back-to-basics glamping retreat, Cranky Corner House is a comfortable, sustainable place to retire, and Energy Efficiency Redhead Alterations transforms a 1970s home. There are beach houses at Seal Rocks and Bluey's Beach, plus Islington House, Cooks Hill Residence and 374 Hamilton in Newcastle.
