Box Living on Lunchbox Architect
BOX Living is a New Zealand company of architects and builders who specialise in modular design and build, based in Kingsland, Auckland. Unlike most modular builders, who use steel, BOX prefers engineered timber, a lightweight system well suited to New Zealand's sloping land and seismic zones. Their Box design-build method brings architect and builder together to make good design more affordable to build.
On Lunchbox, Bassett Road House is a four-bedroom family home at the bottom of a sheer slope in a sunny Auckland enclave, a modernist post-and-beam house in engineered timber. Box Lite Corrondella in Lower Hutt, near Wellington, was a young couple's first home on a modest budget and a small, challenging block. With a footprint of just 115 square metres, it still packs in some ambitious ideas, including split levels and a generous deck.
