Branch Studio Architects

Branch Studio Architects is a Melbourne architecture and design practice founded in 2012 by Brad Wray and Nicholas Russo, now based in Collingwood. Their work covers architecture, interiors, urban design, landscape, custom furniture and art installations, from houses to schools and community and civic projects. A 2023 monograph, Consolidation: Ideas, Process and Spatial Storytelling, traces a decade of their work and how ideas translate "through materiality, space and light to tell stories about place, time, people and context."

On Lunchbox, Pump House began as little more than a glorified shed: somewhere for its owner-builder and his partner to have a cup of tea and spend time with their horse, George. Working with Nicholas Russo, the brief grew into a completely self-sufficient 62-square-metre guest house and a model for compact, off-grid living, with passive solar design, cross ventilation and a fireplace.
