Carr Design Group
Carr is a Melbourne architecture and interior design firm with a large team of architects and designers, working on homes, multi-residential buildings and workplaces around Australia. Recent work includes Como Terraces in South Yarra, a set of apartment buildings designed to read as a collection of monolithic forms rather than one large block, and residential projects stretching from Melbourne to Broadbeach.
Their two homes on Lunchbox are thoughtful renovations of inner-city period houses for young families. Cube House in Kew keeps the quaint Edwardian terrace front, but around the corner a light well separates it from a crisp contemporary addition, and heritage ornament gives way to contemporary simplicity. Fitzroy Residence brings light into a dark two-storey Victorian terrace, marrying a refined industrial aesthetic with traditional Victorian architecture through subtle detailing and robust forms.

A Stunning Light-Well Separates This Addition From the Original Home
Period ornamentation out the front, contemporary simplicity out the back. This home makes a beautiful transition from old to new.
Industrial Edged Sophistication Reflects Fitzroy's Past and Present
The renovation of this Fitzroy house marries two influences — a refined industrial aesthetic and traditional Victorian architecture.
