Chris Klar Architects

Chris Klar Architects' work on Lunchbox is Mudjimba, a home for a couple on a bushy site in the Sunshine Coast beachside village of Mudjimba, designed to make the most of its lush, tranquil setting and the region's enviable climate.

To suit the subtropics, Chris designed a thin, one-room-wide plan that maximises cross ventilation, with ceiling fans and louvre windows keeping the house cool and breezy. The overhangs are carefully set to block the summer sun and let in the winter sun, and a well-insulated sandwich-panel roof allows large spans while keeping the interiors comfortable. Rainwater harvesting and Australian hardwoods round out a home made for sitting back and enjoying the bush.
