Craig Tan Architects

Craig Tan Architects is an architecture, interiors and urban design practice based in West Melbourne, founded by director Craig Tan in 2011. Its work ranges across hospitality, commercial, retail, education, cultural and civic projects through to houses, and the studio works "with and between these disciplines to ensure coherent, integrated solutions."

The practice's aim, in its own words, is to create "memorable experiences, places people seek out again and again", with spaces that are "fresh yet also timeless" and built around interaction, comfort and sensory engagement. Craig's own background includes community projects with Greg Burgess, work at SJB and Fender Katsalidis, and five years in London as a project director at Adjaye Associates.

On Lunchbox, Dancing House renovates and extends a Melbourne Californian bungalow for a client who wanted the calm of a forest clearing at home. The house is arranged around three courtyards, with garden views and timber and soft grey tones drawn from those natural clearings.

Step Inside a Home Inspired by Tranquil, Forested Clearings

Arranged around three courtyards, this new open-plan extension is a delightful counterpoint to the existing Californian Bungalow.
