Crosshatch

Crosshatch is a small Melbourne design studio co-founded in 2012 by Jaime Diaz-Berrio and Mark Allan, who worked at a number of large practices in Australia and overseas before setting up on their own. The studio works across residential and commercial projects, from house extensions and apartment renovations to new homes and a veterinary hospital in Wallan.

Crosshatch describes its design vernacular as having "both minimalist and modernist principles at its core", aiming for outcomes that are "hard-working, well considered and inventive". The pair say they pride themselves on ethical design practice, strong collaboration and making each client's journey an enjoyable one.

On Lunchbox, Tetris Extension fits new spaces onto a Californian bungalow like interlocking blocks, making the most of a small footprint under a heritage overlay. Folding Floor House is a new home that takes cues from its neighbours, reinterpreting the saw-tooth roof of a nearby converted factory.

Inspired by a nearby converted factory, this home brings its own spin to the saw-tooth roofline and the inspiration doesn't stop there.
