David Mitchell Architects
David Mitchell Architects is an architecture practice with offices in Sydney and the Southern Highlands. Directors David Mitchell, the practice's nominated architect, and Kat Burns started the firm in 2013, and their work spans houses, industrial projects and artworks.
The practice describes itself as "centered on innovative design and quality execution, with a client focus and extensive understanding of the building process." Light, ventilation and materiality are constant considerations, with passive design and sustainable methods used to "lower cost, increase longevity and embody individuality in a bespoke building informed by its functionality."
On Lunchbox, Waterloo Terrace is David's own owner-builder renovation of a narrow terrace in Sydney's Waterloo, reusing existing materials in new ways to reduce environmental impact and keep the home's sense of history. As the project went on, changing needs "often meant designing new components and flexible solutions as building was happening."
