Dock4 Architecture on Lunchbox Architect
Dock4 Architecture, now Dock4 Architects, is a practice with offices in Hobart, Melbourne and Castlemaine. From its roots in Tasmania crafting finely designed homes and small commercial developments, it has grown to deliver community facilities, national brand commercial fit-outs, masterplanning and feasibility work across Australia's southern states.
The practice's aim is "client satisfaction: great design developed from listening, understanding aspirations and resolving pragmatics, followed by reliable delivery to timeframes and budgets." It describes a strong ethical and inclusive approach, designing buildings that are "inclusive and accessible to all" and sustainably responsible.
On Lunchbox, Bonnet Hill House is a modest, 100-square-metre, cement-clad home near Hobart, with an open double-height living space and mezzanine sleeping that keeps it warm in winter and open in summer. Apollo Bay House drapes new spaces over an original cedar-lined shack like a tent, using a new asymmetrical steel frame rather than knocking it down.
