DREAMER

DREAMER is an architecture and design practice in Melbourne. Its Lunchbox project, Terrace House 1, renovates a terrace in Ascot Vale for a nurse who often works night shifts and wanted a home that felt like a nature-filled sanctuary, yet could still host large gatherings of family and friends.

The challenge was to do all that on a narrow site without swallowing the backyard. Where terraces are usually long, narrow and dark, the new rear extension and upstairs addition bring as much light as possible into the house and connect it to the garden, with passive solar design, cross ventilation, solar power and a lush outlook from every room.

This terrace house renovation creates a lush outlook from every room

A terrace house typically makes you think, long, narrow and dark. This terrace might be long and narrow, but it's also light and lush!
