Ekah Studio
Ekah Studio is a New South Wales architecture studio led by nominated architect J. Richardson. It creates "beautiful homes with an empathetic commitment to the environment, human health and happiness", paying attention to "the small moments and daily rituals that make a house a home."
The studio works closely with clients to understand how their home functions, and aims to connect the built and natural environment. It believes in "maximum impact, minimum intervention."
On Lunchbox, A&S's Place – affectionately known as Avocado House – renovates a 1960s weatherboard home in Waratah, near Newcastle. Built through close collaboration between architect, clients and builder – one of the owners – it keeps the house's mid-century charm while opening it to the garden and deck, with terrazzo, Australian hardwoods and rainwater harvesting.
