Ensamble Studio

Ensamble Studio is a Spanish architecture studio. Its Lunchbox project, The Truffle, is one of the most unusual homes we have featured.

Set on the Costa da Morte coastline, the tiny hideaway is, like a truffle, of the earth. From the outside its organic shape looks more like a misplaced boulder than a house – perhaps the remnant of a long-extinct volcano – and inside, highly textured surfaces feel more like a cave than a man-made space. Yet it has the comforts of a toilet, shower, comfortable bed and fireplace, and a stunning view of the ocean. Paulina the cow played a part in making it, too.
