Evolva Architects

Evolva Architects is a Melbourne practice established by architect Matthew Scully and designer Peter Sofarnos, who studied architecture together at the University of Melbourne. It offers "an individually tailored residential service, designing beautiful buildings for clients who want to enhance their homes and lives", and its work ranges from houses and beach houses to an artist's studio built inside nineteenth-century stables in Northcote, and a rammed earth house.

"Our clientele are our top priority," the practice says, "and we never forget that we are the trusted recipients of their unique design commissions."

On Lunchbox, Barwon Heads House transforms a dilapidated, heritage-listed 1920s beach house with collapsing lean-tos into a robust home for a family of six. With the original house untouchable and sunlight hard to reach, the new living areas use recycled brick, timber and off-form concrete that will gather character over time.

A Maritime Inspired Beach House Will Only Get Better With Time

This robust home for a family of six will be knocked about by the young family and accumulate character through the passage of time.
