Geoff Fletcher Architects on Lunchbox Architect

Geoff Fletcher Architects is a New Zealand architecture practice. Its Lunchbox project, Kapiti Beach House, was designed for clients who wanted a discreet, private beach house as well as a small cottage on the same site for visiting family and guests.

Set on top of a sand dune with exceptional views, the house needed to make the most of sunlight and outdoor living. The answer is essentially a glass box wrapped in sliding cedar shutters, which give it shelter, privacy and a kind of camouflage cloak. Over time the cedar will weather to grey and blend into the dunes.

See Kapiti Beach House on Lunchbox below.

Kapiti Beach House Will Eventually Grey Off to Blend into the Dunes

Sliding cedar shutters provide this otherwise glass box with shelter, privacy and a camouflage cloak — preparing it for every situation.
