Hook Turn Architecture
Hook Turn Architecture is a Melbourne architecture practice. Its Lunchbox project, Quarry House, extends a Victorian home on a quiet Brunswick East street.
From the street it looks like any other Victorian, but inside, the new extension feels significant, even geological. Brunswick was founded on bluestone quarrying and brick manufacturing, which helped define Melbourne's architecture, and the design draws on that history to give the house a sense of place in a rapidly changing suburb. Conceived as two stacked boxes, the addition uses face brick, metal cladding and a cantilevered upper level around a courtyard.

Inspired by the Local Area Quarry House is All Bricks and 'Bluestone'
Brunswick has a rich history of bluestone quarries and brickworks. Quarry House updates a Victorian terrace with this history in mind.
