Ian Moore Architects on Lunchbox Architect
Ian Moore Architects is a Sydney practice based in Marrickville, established in 1990 by principal Ian Moore, a registered architect in New South Wales and Victoria. The practice's work has been exhibited in Australia and internationally, including at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2008 and 2012.
Ian first studied civil and structural engineering before studying architecture at UTS, and later completed a Master of Architecture at RMIT. He has taught at several Sydney universities, lectured in Australia and overseas, and served on award juries including the World Architecture Festival.
On Lunchbox, Strelein Warehouse converts a late-19th-century former grocery warehouse in Surry Hills – later an engineering workshop and then an artist's studio – into a two-level, one-bedroom home. The new front door sits in the old loading dock beside a heritage-listed sandstone wall, framed by a full-height steel portal among recycled brickwork.
