Irving Smith Architects on Lunchbox Architect

Irving Smith Architects, formerly Irving Smith Jack Architects, is a niche architecture practice based in Whakatū Nelson on New Zealand's South Island, led by Andrew Irving and Jeremy Smith. It works in sensitive environments in New Zealand and abroad, and "builds with the land, not on it", with a commitment to "innovative, sustainable and research based design" and a long list of awards, including World Villa of the Year at the 2017 World Architecture Festival.

On Lunchbox, OffSET Shed House is an unpretentious beach house made of shed-like forms in a remote surf community. Tent House is a super-insulated "permanent tent" in an inland southern basin of big skies and extreme temperatures. Bonita Room is a 12-square-metre addition to Jeremy's own home, a largely untouched 1960s house by New Zealand architect Alec Bowman, creating a private space for one of the family's children.
