Kebbell Daish on Lunchbox Architect
Kebbell Daish is a Wellington architecture practice that specialises in "architecture for creative cultures" – for the artists, inventors, entrepreneurs, academics, collectors and "self-described cultural junkies" who, in its words, know they're slightly different. Clients have ranged from advertising agencies and web developers to painters, dressmakers and art galleries.
Sam Kebbell started the practice with John Daish in 2002 and has directed it since John retired in 2009. Sam is also a part-time academic at the Wellington School of Architecture and a co-founder of Humbugaa, an online art and architecture gallery. The practice looks for connections between architecture and the arts, technology and context, weaving collaborators' input into "something coherent".
On Lunchbox, Humbug Artist's Studio is a small studio with additional living space on the Mornington Peninsula, created with painter Peter Adsett. Described as "the residue of a process between an architect, Sam Kebbell, and a painter, Peter Adsett", it explores the space between painting and architecture through the idea of figure and ground.
