Lance Workshop Architecture and Design on Lunchbox Architect
Lance Workshop Architecture and Design is the work of Kate and Henry Lance, who started the company in 2006 in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales and moved it to Sydney in 2011. Its name evokes something crafted in a workshop: "a carefully considered item, something designed and fabricated with real intention." Nominated architect Kate Lance graduated from Sydney University with first class honours.
Initially working only in residential architecture, the practice now also takes on interiors, renovations, product design, bespoke architectural installations and lighting, applying the same process at every scale. It believes in honest, durable materials, designs that last a lifetime, and always creating a "wow factor", and has completed several off-grid and passive-house projects with outstanding thermal performance in extreme climates.
On Lunchbox, Lake Crackenback Ski Lodge is a sculptural lodge in the Snowy Mountains, complete with Japanese-style baths, approached "as if it were a sculpted object" and engineered for the site's high winds and extreme temperatures.
