Lat Forty Five on Lunchbox Architect
Lat Forty Five is a design practice based in Queenstown, New Zealand. Its Lunchbox project, Shallard House, was designed by engineer Guy Shallard of Lat Forty Five.
On a long, narrow site surrounded by other properties and running parallel to a lake, the living areas needed to be elevated to maximise the views and provide privacy. Drawing on his engineering background, Shallard suspended the living area within a bold, heavily engineered bridge element several metres above the ground. As he puts it, "In terms of the building structure, I like to push things a little."
See Shallard House on Lunchbox below.
Shallard House Features a Living Area Suspended Above the Ground
A piece of engineering ingenuity, Shallard House's living area is suspended like a bridge to capture lake views and maintain privacy.
