Matt Thitchener Architect

Matt Thitchener Architect is a Central Coast practice, based in Bateau Bay, that designs luxury coastal homes on technically challenging sites: beach and harbour frontages, BAL Flame Zone bushfire areas, and steep coastal blocks with complex foundations. Nominated architect Matt Thitchener has 25 years' experience designing waterfront and bushfire architecture from Newcastle to Newport.

The practice provides an end-to-end service from concept through construction, working collaboratively with builders and consultants and starting each project with a site assessment and an honest conversation about feasibility and budget. Its work spans the Central Coast, Northern Beaches and Sydney Harbour, including homes at Killcare Heights, Pearl Beach and MacMasters Beach.

On Lunchbox, North Avoca Studio overcomes difficult access and unstable terrain to create a dramatic, multi-purpose studio for a young family who work from home, lifted on a lightweight steel structure to take in spectacular views of the beach.
