MC Architecture Studio on Lunchbox Architect

MC Architecture Studio is an architecture practice based in Sumner, New Zealand.

Its Lunchbox project, Kingswood House, replaces a converted warehouse destroyed in an earthquake. The client wanted an open space that celebrates the view to the port while creating privacy from surrounding buildings. A big steel and cedar facade frames views of the port, the hill and the stormy southerly weather, while west windows and skylights bring in light without noise or overlooking from neighbours. To fit the industrial port area and heritage constraints, the design keeps the shape of the original building while reinterpreting it.
