McGregor Westlake Architecture
McGregor Westlake Architecture (MWA) is a Sydney practice based in Surry Hills, established in 1999 by founding principal and director Peter McGregor. It is interested in city-making projects, from mid-scale social housing apartment buildings to the laneway scale of a garage studio and the metropolitan scale of Sydney Metro North-West, seeing each as "an opportunity to contribute to civic space & the city fabric".
Its work spans mixed-use and multi-residential housing, public works, urban design, art and infrastructure, and it has won more than 30 AIA, AILA and PIA awards and competitions. Peter McGregor is an advocate for "density with amenity" across Sydney's middle suburbs.
On Lunchbox, Laneway Studio in Redfern is a 25-square-metre garage-top dwelling designed as a prototype for the city's laneways, challenging poorly designed laneway buildings and current planning guidelines. It received a 2018 NSW AIA Commendation in the Small Projects category.
