MGAO

MGAO (Matt Goodman Architecture Office) is a Melbourne-based architecture office with a great passion for architecture, working on projects of all scales, large or small.

Its Lunchbox project, Durimbul, is a new home at Wye River on the Great Ocean Road, rebuilt after the devastating 2015 bushfires. On a steep block with views to Bass Strait and a BAL40 bushfire rating, it could use no external timber, yet it continues the legacy of the village's modest 1960s and '70s beach houses, with their "rational footprints, expressed with simple construction methods and common materials". Presenting as a strong, impenetrable form from the side, it opens up generously to the views.

See Durimbul on Lunchbox below.
