Mihaly Slocombe on Lunchbox Architect

Mihaly Slocombe Architects is a Melbourne practice based in Fitzroy North, led by principal architect Warwick Mihaly, that aims to "craft purposeful architecture with joy". Central to its work is its relationship with clients: the studio listens, asks and collaborates so that design continues at every step, from first sketches through models and working drawings to construction, resulting in architecture that "belongs to its climate, connects to its function, and captures your aspirations".

Guided by principles such as using materials honestly, protecting the planet and building more architecture with less money, it creates bespoke, efficient buildings at every scale, from homes to public projects.

Its Lunchbox projects include Kids Pod, a pavilion for children linked by a glazed bridge to a vineyard house, Joyful House in Geelong with its sunny yellow ceiling, and Deco House, which opens up a cramped Art Deco cottage in Kew. Studio Uno is a thoughtful Dependent Persons Unit in Brunswick, and Fringe Dweller transforms an Edwardian weatherboard in Clifton Hill.
