Mitsuori Architects on Lunchbox Architect
Mitsuori Architects is a Melbourne practice based in Fitzroy, focused on "enduring and innovative architecture that is uniquely reflective of its place, environment and the people that inhabit it". It was founded in 2008 by directors Matthew Murfett and Melissa Lim, who have worked with world-renowned practices on major cultural, commercial, residential and interior projects in Australia, the UK, Europe and the USA.
Their move away from city-scale projects was inspired by a desire to explore the craft of architecture on a personal scale, creating buildings that are respectful of the past, reflective of the present and robust for the future. The practice sees design as a journey of discovery, translation and creation, shared openly with clients, design teams, fabricators and builders.
On Lunchbox, South Melbourne House opens up the entire ground floor of a double-storey terrace for a family who live and work together. Armadale House adds a discreet, compact two-storey form to a Victorian house to keep as much garden as possible, and Middle Park House renovates and extends a Victorian home for an active, growing family.

A Discreet Addition Makes the Most of a Compact Site in Armadale
The Armadale House addition creates an open plan living area with a great connection to the garden, maximising the small site.
