MMAD Architecture

MMAD Architecture, or Michael Montgomery Architecture & Design, is a Melbourne practice led by Michael Montgomery, a 2003 architecture graduate of Deakin University. He began MMAD to extend his passion for architecture and design, with the aim of creating well-designed spaces that are fit for purpose, driven by each client's brief and end vision. His motto: "Have a laugh and create something special."

The practice works closely with clients, builders and consultants to draw out the best outcomes, treating every project with equal importance and making engaging with people and enjoying the process a priority. Its work includes houses in Bentleigh, Brighton East, Kew, Hawthorn and Sorrento.

On Lunchbox, Fitzroy North House adds a two-storey rear addition to a home in a heritage streetscape, carefully designed so it stays hidden behind the retained heritage facade.

You'd Never Guess What's Behind This Facade (But That's the Point)

Ultimately council agreed to let them make some changes behind this heritage facade, convinced no one on the street would be the wiser.
