NASA
NASA (National Architecture Space Agency) is a Melbourne architecture practice.
Its Lunchbox project, Paling Fence House, tackles the challenges of subdividing a suburban block. With strict rules on setbacks, overshadowing and overlooking, dual occupancy homes can easily end up cramped, yet NASA created a modern, spacious family home with two usable outdoor spaces on a buildable area of just 140 square metres. The suburban paling fence inspires the design, representing the separation of public and private space, and the house is planned to cast its own shadows over windows rather than relying on eaves.
