O’Connor and Houle Architecture
O'Connor and Houle is an architecture, interiors and landscape design practice located in inner-city Melbourne, with a second studio at Portsea on the Mornington Peninsula. Established in 1996 by Annick Houle and Stephen O'Connor, it undertakes projects around the world, from houses and gardens to museums, wineries, education facilities and commercial buildings, including work at Heide Museum of Modern Art.
Each project is led by one of the principals. The practice's work "celebrates life and the richness of our culture, history and environment", navigating historical, social and environmental layers to extract a simple, clear idea, then meticulously unfolding it from the client brief to the finest construction detail.
On Lunchbox, Pirates Bay House is a holiday home on the Mornington Peninsula designed as a place for slow living, set among tea-tree scrub. High-quality craftsmanship, natural materials, minimal ornamentation and attention to the play of light create a peaceful beachside escape for the architect-owners.
