Opat Architects on Lunchbox Architect

Opat Architects is an architecture practice whose Lunchbox project is on the Mornington Peninsula.

Somers Courtyard House is a low-maintenance home in the semi-rural beach town of Somers for an expanding family with regular guests, designed so they can customise it and grow into it over time. It is completely off-grid, operating independently of public water, gas, sewerage and electricity. Oriented to the north, it is shaped to let the sun heat its spaces in winter and to ventilate naturally in summer, with outdoor spaces as extensions of the living areas. The architects describe its backbone concept as "a tent-made-solid".
