Peter Winkler Architects
Peter Winkler Architects is an architectural practice based in Torquay on Victoria's Surf Coast. Director Peter Winkler, who holds honours degrees in architecture and environmental engineering from Deakin University, established the practice in 2005 after working in offices in Melbourne and on the Surf Coast.
The small team specialises in medium to high-end residential, multi-residential and educational work, and has completed more than 50 built projects in coastal, rural and urban locations. Its designs start from a concept melded with the client's brief, using materials and spatial planning to bring the outdoors in, capture views and screen neighbours, and it incorporates ecologically sustainable design principles.
On Lunchbox, Court House in Aireys Inlet separates the sleeping and living wings of a beach house with a central courtyard, covered in translucent roofing and closed with bifold gates so it can be used year-round.

Just a short walk from the beach and surrounded by Moona trees, a central courtyard is the link between this home and the landscape.
