Regional Design Service

Regional Design Service is an architecture and design studio based on Bangerang Country in Corowa, in regional New South Wales. As the name suggests, their focus is quality design for rural and regional communities. Their work spans homes, hospitality and civic spaces, as well as rural community planning and strategy.

Their first completed house, Wahgunyah House, sits just across the river from Corowa in northeastern Victoria. The owners loved mid-century modern homes, so the studio designed "a new home with light-filled spaces, clean lines and joyful use of colour throughout." A T-shaped plan points the living area and main bedroom at the bush and farmland views, and a wrap-around terrace takes care of indoor-outdoor living. Inside, bold terrazzo, olive greens and blockwork carry the mid-century feel. The blockwork also does a practical job, helping to moderate temperatures.
