Renato D'Ettorre Architects
Renato D'Ettorre Architects is a small Sydney-based practice focused on high-end residential architecture, deliberately completing fewer projects in greater depth. Its work ranges from clifftop coastal retreats to heritage-sensitive inner-city renovations, along with apartments, restaurants and bars.
Renato D'Ettorre studied architecture at UTS and worked with Harry Seidler, then in Italy with architect Paolo Portoghesi and engineer Pier Luigi Nervi, and later with Romaldo Giurgola. His first solo commission, South Coogee House, launched the practice in 1994. Today he leads a small team as creative director.
The studio designs slowly and precisely, taking a collaborative, investigative approach built on trust with its clients, and aims for homes that are emotionally intelligent, materially rigorous and utterly liveable.
On Lunchbox, Tropical Beach House is a ten-by-ten-metre, one-bedroom retreat on a Queensland island that opens almost entirely to views and breezes through timber shutters and glass doors, then closes down securely when the owners are away.
