Sparks Architects
Sparks Architects is a Sunshine Coast architecture practice, a diverse team of architects and designers led by Dan, that believes buildings must play an integral role in bringing about urgent positive change. Its work seeks a balance between natural and built environments through form, materials and integrated energy systems, aiming for buildings that contribute real quality to the lives of individuals, communities and the wider world.
The studio practises what it preaches: its rooftop photovoltaic array generates more than twice its electricity needs, and it offsets its practice and travel by planting native trees. Its work has received many Australian Institute of Architects awards, including the 2017 National People's Choice Award for Tent House and the 2022 William Hodges Award for House of the Year in the Darling Downs and West Moreton region.
On Lunchbox, Tent House sits in a rainforest clearing in the Noosa hinterland, Montville Residence uses precast concrete rainwater tanks for thermal mass, Mount Ninderry House shows that a sustainable home can be low-budget, and Mass and Void stands out in a Sunshine Coast housing estate.
