Studio Edwards

Studio Edwards is a Melbourne design studio based in Collingwood.

On Lunchbox, House 28 is a weekend retreat at Wye River that clings to a steep, bushfire-prone hillside with views of the ocean. Studio Edwards used three 20-foot shipping containers: two joined to form the living space, with a toilet, laundry and entry, and a third forming a sleeping wing with two bedrooms and a bathroom. The two wings splay apart around a deck, so circulation happens outside instead of along space-hungry corridors. Propped on steel stilts anchored to deep concrete piles, the containers float among the trees, and their steel structure helps the house cope with its bushfire setting.
