Studio Ilk Architecture + Interiors
Studio Ilk Architecture + Interiors is a Hobart practice in South Hobart, founded in 2020 by principal Kate Symons. It takes an inclusive, collaborative approach, listening deeply to produce unique responses to each project, site and client, and seeking to respect local values and craftsmanship to deliver functional, enduring residential and commercial work.
Kate is passionate about preserving heritage buildings and the sustainability of retaining existing fabric and its embodied energy, and relishes complex sites. She graduated with honours from the University of Tasmania and worked on residential, commercial, healthcare and education projects in Tasmania and abroad, co-directing another practice before launching Studio Ilk.
On Lunchbox, Queen Street completes the second stage of a Sandy Bay home begun more than a decade earlier, while Hanover Cottage Garden Room carefully adapts an 1836 heritage cottage in Battery Point for a growing, multi-generational family.
