Tandem Design Studio

TANDEM is a Melbourne architecture studio that describes itself as a forum where concepts are developed, nurtured and edited in collaboration. Its work spans inclusive learning spaces, retail markets conceived as intergenerational community assets, homes and strategic design, with an emphasis on adaptability and flexibility over the short and long term.

The practice sees sustainability, through design, materials and sustainable principles, as the only way forward. It also seeks to contribute to prosperity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, integrating consultation with Traditional Custodians into its design processes.

On Lunchbox, Kensington Lighthouse makes the most of a 160-square-metre Kensington site overshadowed by a four-metre wall to the north, using curved 'sun shells' to capture light and reflect it deep into the home. True North is a new home on a sunny triangular corner block in Kensington, shaped with sinuous curves, recycled brick and passive solar design.
