Thom Craig Architects
Thom Craig Architects is a Christchurch practice founded in 2008 by architect Thom Craig, a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects. For Thom, architecture is about ideas: meaningful solutions should test social constraints and reflect the human condition and contemporary culture.
Thom studied architecture at the University of Natal in South Africa and later completed a Master of Architecture at RMIT in Melbourne. His career includes years at Warren and Mahoney, where he became a director, before co-forming Modern Architecture Partners and then founding his own practice.
On Lunchbox, MegaTower turns a five-by-five-metre inner-city site, once home to a public toilet, into a four-storey tower house, part of Christchurch's rethinking of how to build after its earthquakes. A garage and laundry sit at ground level, with living, a bedroom, a mezzanine library and a roof deck with 360-degree city views stacked above.
