Timmins + Whyte

Timmins + Whyte is a Melbourne architecture practice based in Collingwood, led by Sally Timmins and David Whyte, designing homes and commercial projects.

On Lunchbox, 10 Fold House in Abbotsford balances light, breezes, privacy and a sense of space on a tight inner-city site. Rather than building over the backyard, the architects kept the footprint of a single-fronted Edwardian home and extended upwards. The new roof is folded ten times like origami, opening the home to light and borrowed treetop views while screening neighbours and helping to avoid overheating in summer and heat loss in winter, and creating a dramatic volume inside.
