On Lunchbox, Peekaboo House in Preston extends a Californian bungalow with a south-facing backyard the owners wanted to keep intact. The new two-storey addition hugs the original home to preserve outdoor space and pops up above the old roof to capture as much north light as possible. Downstairs, new living spaces open onto the backyard, letting the original house become bedrooms for the kids, a bathroom and an entry. Upstairs is the parents' retreat, with a bedroom, bathroom, walk-in robe and a balcony overlooking the yard.

Peekaboo! This Addition Pops Over the Roof of The Original Home

To grab light without taking over the backyard, this addition pops its head over the original home, saying peekaboo to the street!
