On Lunchbox, House with a Guest Room in Redhead, near Newcastle, does away with the usual hallway. Three simple pavilions hold the living room, a bedroom and a guest bedroom, separated by a courtyard and a covered deck. Those in-between spaces become places in their own right, to pause, sit in the morning sun and stay connected to the outdoors.

At this minimal home, the space in between the living area and bedrooms is just as crucial as the spaces themselves.
