Beachouse Architecture

Beachouse Architecture is a practice based at Dodges Ferry in southern Tasmania. Their work on Lunchbox, Bruny Shore House, sits on an 18-hectare block on North Bruny Island, hanging over a slope towards the ocean at Bull Bay.

The owners are adventurers and environmentalists, so the house had to make a statement without harming the delicate Tasmanian environment. Built from local timber and placed at one of the steepest points on the block to capture the panorama, it's a dramatic 140-square-metre home that still follows passive solar principles, with clerestory windows, double glazing, generous decks and recycled timber.
